Lindy Kwock's Roundup of Fashion Week Fall 2009: New York
Lindy Kwock, runway model, summaries New York Fashion Week.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 28, 2009 ) Henderson, NV - According to fashion expert Lindy Kwock the 2009 Fall edition of New York Fashion Week, held February 13–20, was devoid of a great deal of the glamour and over-the-top merriment that usually accompanies this semi-annual event. But, it certainly didn't stop fashion itself -- designers adjusted and so did the models.
Fashion Week was developed in 1943 by Eleanor Lambert, who attempted to bring fashion to the U.S. during World War II, a task at which she was quite successful. Before Lambert's effort, France was the Mecca of all fashion. Today, the ability to showcase their line at Bryant Park is the highlight of every fashion designer's career.
2009 is the first year since WWII that fashion has experienced the cut-backs and adjustments experienced during this Fashion Week. Some designers dialed back the glamour quotient, offering pared-down modern design in clothes that will cost less than they have in the past -even the famous tents at Bryant Park for the Mercedes- Benz New York Fashion Week were not the same as in years past. The current economic climate was felt everywhere.
Still, designers remained passionate to their craft displaying their 2009 fall collections with notable shows including The Twinkle by Wenlan, which took place at the Classic Car Club, mixing vintage feel with high glamour.
The scaled back shows served as another example of the crisis facing all industries across the country. But designers made it through Fashion Week holding their head's high despite the economic hardship.
