Rick Bisio Speaks about Franchising at a Meeting for Entrepreneurs in Pembroke Pines, Florida
Avoiding the accidental ambush; don’t let friends and family guide you to the wrong decision
(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 09, 2009 ) Pembroke Pines, FL -- More and more people are going into business for themselves; many are choosing to buy a franchise. Rick Bisio, known as the Educated Franchisee, has bought and sold many businesses, including franchises. In addition, he has educated thousands of entrepreneurs on how to choose a franchise that is right for them.
Rick recently spoke at a meeting for young entrepreneurs who are considering the franchise business. Rick discussed how to research a franchise and how to get sound advice as he explained, “If you are serious about becoming a franchise owner, you should look for advice from business professionals who are experienced in franchising in the industry you are considering; better yet, in the same franchise you are looking at. Franchisees are a tremendous resource. Other sources are accountants with franchise experience or lawyers who specialize in franchising.”
Rick went on to discuss where not to get advice. “Far too often, potential franchisees get so excited about the idea of owning a business that they will talk to anyone who will listen, including drinking buddies or older relatives, like their Great Aunt Edna. Many people have your best interests in mind, but well-meaning advice from people who have never owned a business or who have no franchise experience can be disorienting.”
Rick talked about some of the common objections often heard when listening to friends and family. Don’t most small business fail? Why not just change jobs? You should think about it some more. What if you fail? Rick addressed all these concerns. “Several long-term studies have established that franchises have a more solid success rate than independent business start-ups. Getting another job will not move you to the next level; few become wealthy working for someone else. If you have done your research, you need to take action, make a decisive decision and move forward. There are no guarantees against failure in anything we do in life, but you can educate your self and stack the deck in your favor.”
Rick concluded the meeting saying, “Before you begin to share franchise information with your friends and family be sure you have the facts straight. Educate them. Help them join your team. And if they can’t be on your team, perhaps that’s OK. Everyone likes to give advice, and of course, everyone gives advice from their point of view - their reference base. As long as you know that, you can value their concern, and not let it overly influence you.”
Everyone was happy with the valuable information Rick provided. As one of the most respected franchise consultants in the United States, Rick Bisio has guided thousands of people to great decisions regarding business ownership and franchising. Rick has owned both franchised and non-franchised businesses. He has bought, sold and invested in businesses and worked as an advisor to others seeking the same.
