(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 06, 2009 ) Roscoe, Mont.—The Lazy E-L Ranch is pleased to announce Sean Sherman will be their new chef starting summer 2009. The Lazy E-L is a 12,000 acre ranch where you will find friendly people operating a real working cattle ranch. Guests are welcome to come along to wrangle horses, doctor calves, ship heifers and perform daily ranch chores. If you prefer a more relaxing atmosphere, the Lazy E-L also offers spectacular bird watching, fishing, and 12,000 acres of peace and quiet in which to explore.
Sean’s background includes stints at restaurants in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis, St Paul where he made his mark in the culinary world. Sean, Lakota Sioux, is a self-taught culinary star. Sean’s plans for the Lazy E-L include a redesign of the menu to best optimize locally grown and produced food. He is currently researching milk products from a local dairy, getting pork products from a local rancher and working with the local farmers market for fresh produce. The Lazy E-L specializes in hearty meals complete with homemade bread, fresh eggs from the ranch and vegetables straight from the garden. Once a week everyone gathers around for an evening barbeque made from hormone free all natural Angus beef. Sean will combine ranch style cooking with recipes reflecting his Oglala Lakota heritage, bringing in more flavors from the Northern Plains. At the end of the 2009 season, Lazy E-L will produce a ranch cookbook to contain historic recipes from the family including Chef Sean’s contributions.
At the Lazy E-L Ranch an antique locomotive bell is rung to signal chow time. Guests join ranch family and crew for home cooked meals in the central cookhouse. Plans are underway to design a special week where guests go on guided foraging trips at the ranch to collect edible plants with local botanists. Then guests will spend the week learning how to prepare these foods with Chef Sean.
Along with all meals, comfortable accommodations in historic cabins, your own horse, tack and wrangler for your week-long stay are provided. The Lazy E-L crew is here to make sure you have an authentic “Old Western” ranching experience.
