Defective Chinese Drywall Class Action Complaint Filed by Morgan & Morgan

Defective product attorneys at Morgan & Morgan (ForThePeople.com) have filed a class action complaint against the manufacturers and distributors of the defective Chinese drywall that has caused electrical damage and health problems for Florida residents.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 04, 2009 ) Fort Myers, FL - Defective product attorneys at Morgan & Morgan (ForThePeople.com) have filed a class action complaint against the manufacturers and distributors of the defective Chinese drywall that has caused electrical damage and health problems for Florida residents.

Due to shortages in American-made drywall products between 2004 and 2006, several Florida building companies utilized imported drywall from China in the construction of new homes. The lawsuit alleges that waste material from Chinese power plants, also known as fly ash, was used in the manufacturing of this Chinese drywall. These waste materials can leak into the air and emit harmful sulfur compounds, including sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide.

The class action complaint holds that 10 million square feet of the defective drywall was used in Florida homes. When the defective drywall emits these sulfur compounds in homes, they can cause extensive electrical damage. Corrosion of air-conditioning units and wiring has been linked to the Chinese drywall. Residents in homes built with the defective drywall have also reported suffering from respiratory problems, nose bleeds, coughing, and irritation of sinuses, eyes and throats.

The suit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District for Florida on behalf of Shane M. Allen and Nicole J. Allen of North Fort Myers, Fla. and other residents whose health and homes may be at risk due to the problems associated with the Chinese drywall. The defendants named in this lawsuit include Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin (KPT), a Chinese drywall manufacturer; Knauf Group, the German parent company of KPT; Banner Supply, a Miami building supply company; and Rothchilt International Ltd., a China-based exporter.
