Goodson to lead Canaveral Port Authority Board

Former Executive Director McLouth Returns as Commissioner

Canaveral Port Authority

(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 26, 2009 ) PORT CANAVERAL, FL — Rockledge business owner Tom Goodson took the gavel as Chairman of the Canaveral Port Authority Board in the election of officers during the first Commission meeting of the year. It also was the first meeting for newly elected Commissioner Malcolm ‘Mac’ McLouth, the Port’s former Executive Director who previously served on the Board for nearly 3 decades.

“These are challenging times for any business, yet cruising remains strong at Canaveral and we look forward to the arrival of the first two of four new 4,000-plus passenger cruise ships that will be homeported here this year,” says Goodson, owner of Goodson Paving and Seminole Curbs. “And we will continue to build upon a strong first quarter in cargo as we await the opening of the Seaport Canaveral tank farm later this year. The Board and staff take seriously the significantly growing economic dependence of our community upon Port Canaveral and we are committed to continuing Canaveral’s growth as a world-class seaport.”

Goodson, who was elected to the Commission from District 3 in 2002, recognized outgoing chairman Joe Matheny for his service during the past two years as leader of the Board. Matheny, a Titusville resident who has served on the Commission from District 2 since 1998, is an attorney with his own firm. He was re-elected in 2008.

McLouth, a Cocoa Beach resident elected in November 2008 to represent District 5, retired in 2004 having served not only as Executive Director, but also Business Development Director, and a Port Commissioner from 1967 to 1996. The Commission elected him to serve this year as Secretary/Treasurer of the Board.

“My goal in my return to the Commission will be to utilize my experience to contribute to the sustainability of Port Canaveral as an economic engine and environmental steward,” says McLouth.

Merritt Island resident Ralph Kennedy, owner of R.J. Kennedy Construction, was elected as Vice Chairman. He has served on the Board since November 1990 representing District 4. He won his latest re-election bid in November 2008.

Completing the Board is retired aerospace manager Raymond Sharkey of Titusville. He was elected from District 1 in 1995. Sharkey served 23 years in the U.S. Air Force and is retired from Lockheed-Martin.
