SHERIDAN, Wyo., Jan. 21, 2009—The #3 Town for Outdoorsmen in America, Sheridan is heaven for those looking for outdoor winter adventure. With a base of 3-5’ of 100% dry powder as of this release, the town and surrounding Big Horn Mountains are dishing up a full menu for winter enthusiasts. The Big Horn Trail System is perpetually rated in the Top 15, with 300 miles of groomed and 50 miles of ungroomed trails for snowmobilers, along with vast open meadows. SnoWest magazine praised the Big Horns as “one of the West’s best-kept secrets – offering solitude, scenery and GREAT SNOW!”
The mountains also offer snow shoeing, snow boarding, alpine and cross-country skiing, as well as ice fishing. Wildlife is abundant and large animals such as moose, elk and deer can be viewed throughout the winter months. Springtime provides excellent snow conditions with fresh powder, deep snow, and warm days; riding into April is not unusual. The Bighorns are not commercially developed which means lodging in the mountains is limited and prevents overcrowding both on and off the trails. Updated snow reports and conditions are available at www.sheridanwyoming.org/winter.
This is the heart of cowboy country, so at the end of the day visitors can warm up in the Old West historic downtown for its warm western hospitality, thirty historic buildings housing restaurants, western clothing and leather craft stores, the famous Mint Bar and the Sheridan Inn, where Buffalo Bill Cody lived and auditioned acts for his Wild West Show.
