UAE Telecom - Subscriber Penetration Saturating, Operators Going for Innovation
The UAE telecom market, a duopoly, is reaching maturation in terms of subscriber penetration. So the mobile operators are moving to innovative services to lure new customers.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 03, 2008 ) New Delhi, India - The UAE telecommunications market has shown tremendous growth over the past few years among the Middle East countries, thanks to the country’s burgeoning economy, rapid infrastructure development, and a strong need to diversify the economy from oil-based resources, says “Booming UAE Telecom Sector”, a new research from RNCOS.
The country, where mobile penetration has already surpassed 166% in 2007, has seen a rapid growth in its mobile market. “This indicates that the UAE has the most mature mobile market in terms of subscriber penetration, leaving less room for further competition in traditional mobile services”, says the senior telecom analyst at RNCOS.
One of the two major mobile operators of the UAE, Etisalat, commands around 84% of the UAE mobile subscriber base. The other leading operator, du, remains in its early stage of growth and is aggressively involved in its network rollout all across the UAE. Moreover, given the already very high penetration rate in the UAE, it is expected that penetration rate will grow modestly in near future. Consequently, the mobile subscribers are projected to grow at a CAGR of more than 6% over the forecast period. Much of the growth is anticipated to come from value added services (VAS).
So both Etisalat and du are offering innovative service packages to attract new customers, while retailing the existing ones. Some of the examples include ePayment services, 'Ahlan' visitor mobile package, Pay by the Second, and WoW card.
“Booming UAE Telecom Sector” offers extensive research on other telecom segments, such as fixed-line, Internet and broadband. It thoroughly analyzes the UAE telecommunication market, taking into consideration various factors that remain requisite for ensuring intended growth in the market. The research further evaluates the potential of various emerging telecom technologies, like 3G, WiMAX, Mobile TV and IPTV in the UAE.
As the telecom market remains duopoly of Etisalat and du, the report, keeping in mind the importance of these two players in the success of UAE telecom market, also offers rational analysis on both these operators. This includes in-depth research and extensive analysis on their business activities, recent developments and SWOT analysis in regard to the UAE telecom industry.
