The Internet Was The Key to Obama's Victory
We all know that the internet has changed our lives forever in a myriad of ways, and certainly the election of Senator Barack Obama as the President of the United States of America is one of those momentous changes.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 05, 2008 ) There are countless other reason why Senator Obama was elected to serve as the chief executive of America, but the internet is chief in terms of how he was able to connect with his constituency and to raise massive amounts of money from a huge multitude of small donors.
It is way too early to call an end to the power of concentrated money owned by the elites and major corporations in electoral politics, but Barack's resounding victory leaves no doubt that many hands of the body politic can raise enormous sums of money. Truly, Obama's economic might in this campaign came from millions of ordinary people who supported his candidacy.
With average contributions, many from online donors, at or around $100, Obama showed that people working together can take the reins of democracy and effectuate a decisive change in leadership.
It is not an enviable task that Obama has before him: he will lead a country in the throes of a recession and inherits a country that has been bitterly divided along partisan lines for decades with the differences appearing to sharpen in recent years.
Hopefully, Obama can truly become a transcendent political figure for the United States and for the world. If he can effectively reach across the aisle to surely disgruntled and perhaps chastened Republicans to create a true 'coalition of the willing' then history may smile of this ceiling smashing hopeful young leader from the great state of Illinois.
