Five Star Operating on Solar Energy, Making It the First Nearly All-Solar Car Wash in Greater Sacramento Area

Five Star installed 612 solar panels with a total area of nearly 8,500 square feet (about a quarter of an acre) and erected several structures for the solar panels to be accommodated as part of its 104-kilowatt photovoltaic solar system

“Five Star is excited to be the first car wash to be nearly completely powered by the sun,” said Jim Sperlazza, owner of Five Star Auto Care. “Car washes are most popular when the sun is shining – so it is a perfect fit for our business. Our customers are excited to be able to take their cars to an environmentally friendly car wash.”
An average of 90 percent of Five Star Auto Care’s monthly electric bill will be offset by the system, which was provided by Yes! Solar Solutions.
Rocklin Mayor Brett Storey, Yes! Solar Solutions President Todd Lindstrom and representatives of Pacific Gas & Electric were present today for the announcement. PG&E presented Mr. Sperlazza with a check representing a rebate for the solar installation.
Solar isn’t the only “green” part of Five Star Auto Care. The auto center also incorporates other “green” items into its operation – it uses eco-friendly cleaning solutions and recently installed energy-saving blow dryers. It is recognized as “green certified” by Ecolab, the world's leading provider of cleaning, food safety and health protection products. The auto repair business recycles used oil and oil filters as well as utilizing safe recyclable solutions for parts cleaning
