Agility Training Improves Acceleration, Strength And Kicking Capacity In Soccer Players

According to a research, soccer players' strength, kicking speed and acceleration significantly improved after agility training. The study wanted to check the effects of a 10-week agility training program on the above mentioned characteristics. The study had twenty-two participants grouped in two with eleven members of almost the same age (18 years old) – the control group and the treatment group.
The two groups performed tactical and technical training but the control group followed a standard physical conditioning program while the treatment group followed an agility training program. The agility training program was performed three days every week and 10-m sprint, jumping ability and kicking speed were measured on five different instances.
Analysis of the data showed that there was a significant increase in acceleration and jumping ability after six weeks of training. There was also a significant increase in kicking speed using dominant leg after eight weeks and kicking speed with non-dominant leg after ten weeks. However, the players of the control group did not show any significant changes in the given abilities. The researches therefore concluded that a 10-week agility training program is an effective way to enhance various abilities of soccer players.
