US Hispanic Chamber opens conference, shares economic concerns
Annual Hispanic business conference creates buzz in California with over 1000 Hispanic business owners in attendance.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 26, 2008 ) Sacramento, CA - Before a group of more than 1000 Hispanic business owners, Augustine Martinez, President and CEO of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), welcomed attendees to the 29th Annual National Convention and Business Expo. The event, which was initiated with the traditional USHCC Chairman’s reception, also served as a platform to discuss what attendees could expect over the four-day event.
“I’ll give you my two-minute drill speech,” Conference Chairman Rafael Sanchez told the group. “This conference is about three things, business, business, and business.”
The Convention is the largest gathering of Hispanic business owners in the United States, which is estimated to have over 2 million Hispanic owned business. Through workshops, networking opportunities and business-matchmaking sessions, the Convention also creates a climate for small business owners and large businesses to do business.
“We at PG&E want to expand our supplier diversity,” said Bill Harper, Vice President of PG&E, one of the nation’s largest utility companies. “That’s why we are here to not only support this convention, but to exchange business information with you, the Hispanic business owners.”
As the crowd mingled after the formal presentations, some business owners expressed concern about the nation’s economy.
“I briefly heard President Bush talk on TV tonight about the bailout for AIG, Freddie Mac, and Sally Mae,” said Phil Moralez of Moralez and Associations, a “Green” environmental consulting firm. “Something needs to happen to create a better business climate for all of us.”
The Convention will concluded Saturday evening with the annual awards banquet gala. For more information on the USHCC visit their website at www.ushcc.com.
