Labor Day first originated in 1882 and was the brainwave of Peter McGuire the Carpenters and Joiners Union Secretary who wanted to do something for the workers and so decided to organize a parade in New York city of 10,000 workers. The idea spread around the country and the day was filled with parades, and entertainment for the workers and their families. In 1894 it was declared a federal holiday by congress and President Grover Cleveland signed it into law and so the first day of September officially became the Labor Day Holiday. It was fashionable at that time not to wear white clothes and especially white shoes following Labor day as it unofficially marked the last day of summer.
According to the United States Cencus Bureau America will be celebrating over 155.6 million workers aged 16 years and over in the nations workforce this Labor day! 16 million wage and salary workers aged 16 years and above are represented by a union.
Whilst many Americans will still turn out to listen to Labor Day speeches and attend the many parades, the vast majority of people will be spending the time celebrating with their families and friends. They will be exchanging the usual array of Labor day gifts, consisting of Tee shirts, hoodies, and ties amongst a wide variety of other gifts. Ali Jane Signature Series has a three in one gift pack containing a pineapple corer with wedger and cocktail recipe book all presented in a gift box.
