Katrina Foley working with Airfare
Costa Mesa, California, City Council member Katrina Foley is working with the organization called Airfare to find solutions to serve all residents.
(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 22, 2008 ) The people in Orange County live here because we want to escape the urbanization of Los Angeles, which any future expansion of JWA poses. The people of OC have already decided that we want "Parks Not Airports."
Given that mandate, the challenge is to find alternatives to the expansion of JWA that conveniently meet the travel needs of our citizenry.
Residents in the corridor cities surrounding the airport have taken a reasonable position to prevent future JAW expansion. The city councils in Costa Mesa, Anaheim, Tustin, Santa Ana, Orange and Newport Beach have all passed resolutions opposing any expansion of JAW beyond its current (2007) footprint. Those public agencies, in cooperation with the Board of Supervisors, and other public agencies, actively support development and implementation of proposals that enable Orange County and businesses to conveniently access underused out-of-county airports using roadway improvements and air passenger rail links.
Costa Mesa and Newport Beach are participating in the the OCTAL Go Local transportation design grant program to develop a joint transportation program to transport people to outlying airports.
In order to find solutions to serve the needs of an excess of 11 Million people, we must all work together.
As a City Council member for Costa Mesa, I am working with Airfare to help find those alternatives. We hope you will join us and be part of the solution.
