Tuvizo Looks Into Reflective Clothing For Cyclists
Hundreds of reflective clothing products for cyclists are on sale in the market today. Tuvizo, the reflective gear company, cuts through the clutter to help cyclists identify the best reflective clothing options available to them in a recently released ar
The Tuvizo Reflective Safety Vest provides high visibility in the day and excellent reflective qualities at night for running, cycling, walking, and other outdoor pursuits.
"Having myself just taken a cycling sabbatical and ridden 600km on the cycling routes in France, I can personally vouch for the importance of wearing high visibility and reflective clothing as a cyclist," says Jo Parkes from Tuvizo.
With the all-too-common SMIDSY ("Sorry mate, I didn't see you!") excuse of motorists in many traffic accidents involving cyclists, cycling enthusiasts will do well to keep reflective clothing, such as a reflective safety vest, on top of other essentials for cycling safety, according to the article.
The Transportation Agency for Monterrey County (TAMC), in an article by Susan Kent published on their website, noted that as high as one-third of fatal bicycle crashes occur in low light or in the dark. The conclusion is that wearing bright or white clothes is simply not enough to provide cyclists ample visibility on the road.
Drivers first see cyclists or pedestrians wearing white at 180 feet, wearing yellow at 129 feet, wearing red at 80 feet, and wearing blue at 55 feet. The problem here is that it takes a full 260 feet for a car speeding at 60 miles per hour to stop. Ideally, the driver should be able to see or detect the cyclist beyond the 260 feet zone. Reflective materials, visible at 500 feet from the car's headlights, provide just this type of solution, according to Ms. Kent.
Road Safety Scotland, the agency in charge of national road safety education in Scotland, commenting on the importance of cycling clothes to road safety, also supports the idea of cyclists wearing reflective clothing, especially at night.
Cyclists, according to the Tuvizo article, should always make it a point to keep the reflective strips on their vests or clothing clean and free from grime or mud to avoid reducing visibility inadvertently.
"Your visibility to motorists is directly related to how safe you are out there on the roads. Read this article for suggestions of what you should be wearing on your bike to make you safer," adds Ms. Parkes.
Tuvizo is a newly emerging company specializing in high visibility clothing primarily designed for use in outdoor fitness and leisure pursuits. The company believes safety combined with user friendly design and functionality is paramount.
