The study, commissioned by Kleem Organics, focussed on the packaging of Vitamin C serum and compared two different containers of the product, a traditional glass pipette bottle and an airless matte bottle with a pump. The laboratory scientists measured specifically the level of oxidation of Vitamin C that occurs and also the bacterial content of the same Vitamin C serum kept in each bottle.
It is well known that Vitamin C degrades very easily when exposed to air and can remain valid for only a couple of days, following which it expires, changes its colour and causes more damage to the skin if applied as it damages the natural skin proteins that protect the skin from aging. Pipette bottles are not airless and when the bulb is squeezed to ooze out drops of serum, the drops that are emitted are replaced by air, which comes directly in contact with the product, hence exposing the product to oxidation and damage.
Another serious issue to consider is that with the entry of air inside the pipette, bacteria is invariably introduced. Bacteria is always present in the air. This may have serious implications as the fine texture of the serum will penetrate the skin easier, hence introducing bacteria quickly and easily into the skin layers, giving rise to infections, irritations, pimples or other adverse reactions.
In view of all this, Kleem Organics wanted to make sure that their JeunesseŽ Vitamin C serum is well protected and preserved in its container. For this reason Kleem have developed their airless bottle. The structure of the bottle is in such a way that there is an internal disc at the base of the bottle which rises each time the liquid is dispensed every time the pump is pressed. This in turn moves the liquid upwards within the bottle and a vacuum will keep the internal disc of the bottle from falling back down to its base. In this way, as the volume of the serum decreases, the space in which it is contained decreases to the same volume of the serum left inside the bottle, keeping the liquid completely sealed and prevents it from coming in contact with air and bacteria.
The pumps used inside Kleem Organics cosmetic bottles have a 99.99% reliability rate and apart from their practical use, as they deliver the required dosage every time, reducing product wastage making the serum last much longer. This maximizes the value for money of the product. No trace of precious serum remains on the sides of the bottle as the disc inside is tight fit to completely displace the whole volume of liquid allowing the user to enjoy the serum till the last drop.
Another point to note in the bottle is that it has a matte finish. This is not just for elegance but also to avoid exposure of the Vitamin C to direct sunlight. UV rays have been scientifically proven to break down Ascorbic Acid, making it lose its effectiveness.
Furthermore, The 1 oz Jeunesse Vitamin C serum bottle is made of durable material eliminating the risk of breakage. The container is also very ergonomic and has a comfortable feel in one's hand making it easy to use!
In a nutshell, one must ensure that one's favourite cosmetics are packaged not just in fashionable bottles with flashy labels, but they must be preserved and protected from environmental factors such as air and bacteria. No one who really has skin care at heart would want to apply a contaminated or expired product on one's face!
