Could Your Playlist Be A Performance Enhancing Drug?
Study Finds That Some Time Signatures Can Make Workouts More Intense and Enjoyable.

A study done by Dr. Costas Karageorghis's and published in the Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology has shown that the right beat could increase endurance by up to 15% in test subjects with them reporting that they reportedly felt less or no change in pain levels.
Although that's not to say that the amount of pain experienced by test subjects actually changed. Instead the music seemed to simply mask the pain felt by participants.
"An ergogenic effect is evident when music improves exercise performance by either delaying fatigue or increasing work capacity." Dr. Karageorghis continues, "Typically the effect results in higher-than-expected levels of endurance, power, productivity and strength."
So maybe all those fitness instructors playing loud music are onto something but what about the people who choose to run or do other physical activities on their own, sometimes requiring both hands.
"It's really great to bring your iPhone along for runs for listening to music but holding a phone with a sweaty hand is a recipe for disaster." says Anthony Hall manufacturer of the Run Bud armbands that's made for iPhone 5's.
He continues "That's why a simple armband to hold your phone is a no-brainer for
people who like to exercise and listen to music."
More studies are being conducted but the evidence seems to point that the right songs can be just as important to a good workout as the proper form or the right shoes to a good workout.
