Study Finds That Cats Demonstrate Attachment Behaviors Toward Their Owners Similar to Children’s Attachment to Their Mothers
Cat Enthusiast Launches a Campaign to Help Keep Cats in their Homes and Out of the Shelter System
Three Norwegians is committed to creating a world where companion cats get back what they give by helping homeless shelter cats and cats of families in financial need get the medical care required to return them to health, thereby increasing their chances of getting into forever homes and staying out of the shelter system.
To that end, Three Norwegians is launching the Save a Cat Facebook Contest. The Grand Prize winner will receive $435 in prizes, including $150 toward a veterinary service, their cat’s name featured in the new children’s book The Bad Guy on the Block, a copy of the book, and the Official Three Norwegians Cat Bed. Second and third-place winners will also receive prizes.
The contest is part of a larger initiative started by writer and cat enthusiast, Kristen Heimerl, who is on a mission to help cats across the country. “No cat should suffer in pain because their caregiver cannot afford the medical care needed to return them to health,” says Heimerl.
It was when Heimerl’s kitten needed costly surgery that she realized the scope of the problem. “All around me I became aware of cat lovers, like me, who were trying to scrape together funds to help the cats in their care. We don’t like to think about the possibility of our pets getting ill or needing medical care, but the reality is, they do. And the cats that fare the worst fate are shelter cats and cats of low-income families. These cats and these families need our help.”
Inspired by her own three cats, Heimerl started Three Norwegians and wrote a book to contribute to the cause: twenty-five percent of the profits from every book sold goes to help a cat in medical need.
Animal lovers can participate in the contest by going to the Facebook contest page and submitting a short essay including their cat’s name, veterinary need, and reason why that cat is special to them.
Details and contest rules are available on the Gallery tab of the Buy a Book. Save a Cat. campaign site.
