Letters to Quentin, a New Vlog-Style Web Series, is the Focus of New Fundraiser on Indiegogo
The Show is about a Gay College Freshman who has Started a Video Blog in Order to Keep her Older Brother Quentin Informed about What’s Going on in Her Life
New York, NY -- Letters to Quentin, a new and innovative vlog-style web series that focuses on a gay college freshman’s desire to keep her older brother Quentin informed on the many things that are taking place in her life, is the focus of a new fundraiser on the crowdfunding Indiegogo website.
Jackie Forbes, head writer, executive producer and founder of Lobster Flip Productions; Sophie Davis, writer and producer; and Elana Mugdan, the lead actress and producer, are aiming to raise enough money to produce the show, which will air in real time on YouTube during the course of an average school year.
Letters to Quentin will follow a young lesbian woman named Michelle “Mitch” Phoenix as she starts college. As the school year begins, Mitch has no idea just how dramatic her first year in college will be. In addition to the fact that she has just come out as a gay woman, Mitch’s family is in the midst of some financial difficulties, and some of her friendships are tumultuous and challenging. Throughout the course of the series, the viewers will get to know Mitch and will cheer her on as she finds out what she wants to do with her life, and learn how to stand up for herself.
The Letters to Quentin series will also focus on transmedia, where viewers will be able to interact with Mitch and the other characters on various social media websites like Twitter and Tumblr. Forbes, Davis and Mugdan said they feel this aspect of the series will allow viewers to really immerse themselves in the narrative, and engage with the characters and get to know them on a personal basis.
“The fact remains that there are simply not enough mainstream LGBT stories out there,” noted Forbes, adding that there are even fewer shows that don't treat non-heterosexuality as an after-school special.
“Or they have tragic endings for all of the gay characters, or they revolve entirely around their characters’ sexualities, as though it was their sole reason for being. What we want to do with this web series is say, yes this main character is gay, yes it is an important part of who she is, but it is not the only important part of her life, and it is not the only story she has to share. And, of course, that it is perfectly normal and there is absolutely nothing wrong with being gay.”
