Sales Expert Blames Slow Economy On Antiquated Sales Training
Is the slow economic recovery due in part to salespeople who simply don't have the skills to make commerce happen? That's the opinion of New York Times best-selling sales author and Dallas sales trainer Frank Rumbauskas.
However, a new opinion has been rendered, and it's from the sales training world. Frank Rumbauskas, author of the New York Times best-seller Never Cold Call Again, and leading sales trainer based in Dallas, Texas, firmly believes that the failure of organizations to keep their sales training up to date as technology changes is to blame.
"Economic recovery happens when organizations are spending money and commerce is happening," he commented. "But that can't happen when you have millions of sales reps in the US who are being taught outdated sales skills from the 1950s, when we're in an Information Age economy that revolves around the Internet."
Rumbauskas states that the key difference between organizations that prosper, and those that go bankrupt, boils down to sales numbers.
"If you're selling and moving product, you're successful. If you're not, you go broke. And having the majority of sales managers in the US continuing to require salespeople to spend time on outdated and obsolete sales activities like cold calling is what's making them go broke."
Frank says the solution is to either modify or replace the current sales training in place at most corporations -- training that depends heavily on cold calling to generate new sales prospects -- with modern training that teaches salespeople how to use technology, and business social media sites like LinkedIn, to generate leads on autopilot.
Rumbauskas cites the average 97-99% failure rate of cold calling, combined with the huge time burden of cold calling, as the reason sales are not being made, and the economy continues to struggle.
