Clothes Shaver: Keep Older Fabrics Looking Fresh

Popular statewide cable television series "Frugal Family" filmed its latest episode, "Electric Clothes Shaver: Keep Older Fabrics Looking Fresh," at the Brother's Keep Thrift Store.
"We wanted to do a double service," said "Frugal Family" Producer and Host Clara Smith-Jones. "Showing our fans how to keep their clothes looking great with an electric cordless clothes shaver fits within our general home economy mission, of course. And it was also a great opportunity to show people the great bargains available at thrift stores, like Brother's Keeper
"But thrift stores are not only great places to find bargains for your family," Smith-Jones said. "They're also usually associated with churches or other charitable organizations, who use the sales to help the disadvantaged. Buying from thrift stores is a great way to do good by your family and the less fortunate at the same time."
The 20 minute episode was evenly split between demonstrating how to use the Electric Cord and Cordless Clothes Shaver and giving a tour of Brother's Keeper store, front and back.
"We're so grateful for the exposure," said Brother's Keeper Store Manager LaVitra Wilson. "Lots of folk think we've nothing but junk, but look around," she said as she swept her arm toward the store merchandise. "People drop off a lot of really good stuff, even high-end stuff. It's a bargain, and our profits help support Evans School for the Blind. Running a school for 30 blind and sight-impaired kids takes a lot of support. "
During the typical portion of the episode, Smith-Jones demonstrated use of the Electric Cord and Cordless Clothes Shaver on blouses, pants, sweaters, curtains and even an upholstered corduroy chair from the Brother's Keeper stock.
"I like the Electric Clothes Shaver sold by Sew Meister," said Smith-Jones, "It's a very good price at about $25, and it works great to give a fresh, new look for any fabrics, quickly and easily. It just shaves off those nasty fabric pills, lint and fuzz lickity split."
As she usually does during her episodes, Smith-Jones pointed out the environmental advantages of being frugal, in this case by using a clothes shaver.
"Saving money by using clothes longer – or reusing clothes from thrift stores like Brother's Keeper – is good for your family AND for the environment. Wasted things are a waste of money and a waste of the Earth's resources. By following ‘Frugal Family' tips, like today's tip for using an electric cordless clothes shaver to keep clothes fresh, you are serving your family, the Earth and God."
Brother's Keeper Thrift Store is at 238 Madison Street, at the corner of Madison and 3rd. It's open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
