Beyond Conflict 2013: Take control of your personal safety
Conference to teach personal safety skills to use in volatile situations
A number of the workshops address the physical side of staying safe:
— Point-of-impact crisis intervention (PICI): What happens when words alone fail? Professionals who work in volatile workplaces must know when to mesh their words with action. If they’re leaders, they must teach others to do the same. The developers of the all-new PICI program, which is on the cutting-edge of workplace safety, will present.
— Responsive proxemics: How do you read the warning signs of body language and move appropriately to get out of harm’s way? Get ready for awareness-building and practical activities that were developed, tested and supported by corrections professionals who work with some of the most dangerous individuals in the country.
— Protecting your loved ones: What’s within your power to keep your family safe? Defensive tactics expert Dave Young, of Arma Training and Your Family Defense, details the options, the training and the practical considerations you must know to create a family action plan for daily life, whether you’re out in public or at home in a crisis situation such as a home invasion.
On Sunday, Nov. 10, Dave Young will also present a personal and professional self-defense class. This three-hour session covers stance, balance, managing distance, movement tactics, evasion, developing exit strategies and developing a safety routine.
Beyond Conflict 2013 (www.BeyondConflict2013.com) will be held Nov. 7-10, 2013, at the Brookfield Sheraton Hotel in Brookfield, Wis. The conference explores the many applications of the Verbal Defense & Influence conflict management strategies taught by the Vistelar Group. The conference is open to the public.
