Two children were killed in a house fire on Thursday in Burke County despite efforts by a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper to rescue them.
Reports indicate that four adults, including the trooper, were injured by the fire in attempt to rescue the children from the burning house.
Firefighters reported that found flames were coming from the doors, windows, and roof of the home when they arrived. They reported two attempts to enter the house but were driven back by heavy flames and smoke.
