Premier unveils billboard to promote Sydney in Hong Kong

"On the first day of his nine-day trade and education mission to China, Mr Iemma said the billboards would highlight the relationship between NSW and Hong Kong."

(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 17, 2008 ) Hong Kong - Premier Morris Iemma unveiled one of three new billboards in Hong Kong to promote Sydney to Chinese tourists.

On the first day of his nine-day trade and education mission to China, Mr Iemma said the billboards would highlight the relationship between NSW and Hong Kong.

The three billboards, in prominent, high-traffic locations, wish Hong Kong ‘great success’ in hosting the 2008 Olympic Games equestrian events.

“As well as promoting Sydney, these billboards are a great way for one Olympic Games host to show support to another,” Mr Iemma said.

“NSW has a strong and productive relationship with Hong Kong and we want to encourage more people from Hong Kong to visit Sydney and NSW.

“These billboards are an excellent opportunity to present a positive message about Sydney – thousands of commuters and other passers-by will see the billboards each day.”

Hong Kong joins Beijing and Shanghai in hosting a total of six special billboards to coincide with the Premier’s mission to China.

All six billboards carry the Sydney brand logo and www.sydneyaustralia.com tagline, and will be in place until the end of August 2008.

Asiaray Advertising will provide the three billboards in Hong Kong, two of which will be located at Star Ferry Car Park and one at the Middle Road Multistorey Car Park.

“Hong Kong is an important and growing source of high-end visitors to NSW and promoting Sydney and NSW is an important part of my visit,” Mr Iemma said.

“Last year 77,000 people from Hong Kong visited NSW, spending $188 million.”
