Freehold Chiropractor Celebrates National Chiropractic Health Month
October is National Chiropractic Health Month. Freehold Chiropractor, Dr. Russell Brokstein is participating in this public health awareness campaign.
One of our patients who avoided surgery and still active at 80 years old
We all know people that are suffering with joint pain and have either had or are considering joint replacement surgery, most likely of the knees or hips. You can keep your joints more healthy and prevent these types of unnecessary procedures by making simple lifestyle changes.
Dr. Russell Brokstein states, "Joint health is so important to maintain. We put daily stresses into the joints that accumulate from the day we are born. The wear and tear over the years can lead to pain. Too many doctors recommend painful joint replacement surgeries that have no guarantees that they will be successful. Often the surgery leads to restrictions on activity and losing the ability to perform activities you once enjoyed. Chiropractic gets motion back into the joints, removing pressure from the nerves to help naturally reduce the cause of aches and pains. Chiropractors also provide lifestyle and exercise recommendations to optimize health and wellness. Making these changes can make a huge difference so you can enjoy your normal daily activities for many years to come."
In honor of National Chiropractic Health Month, Dr. Brokstein offers some tips to be more active and pain free:
-Stand up: If you work in an office, look into using standing desks or treadmill desks. If these aren't viable options, you can still stretch your legs with a short walk every 20 to 30 minutes.
-Take small breaks: There are simple stretches for your neck, shoulders, wrists, back and legs. Watch some simple stretches by clicking here: Neck Stretches
-Get moving: Working out is very important. Just aim to get 20 to 30 minutes of exercise 3 to 5 days per week. This helps to keep the joints moving and the muscles limber.
-Eat right: Certain foods and supplements help reduce inflammation and joint pain. Fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats, glucosamine, chondroiton sulfate, MSM, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, calcium, Vit C, digestive enzymes, boswellia, garlic, tumeric and other natural herbs. It's also very important to limit red meat and refined carbohydrates like sugar and flour. Just a few simple changes can have a positive impact on your health.
