Chemicals Inside Epsilon Glow Sticks
Glow Sticks Consist of Safe Non-toxic Chemicals
Glow Stick Demonstration
Luminol- This is the main chemical component of a glow stick. It is recognizable as the main compound used in crime scenes to illuminate blood evidence. It is composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen.
Hydrogen Peroxide- We all know about hydrogen peroxide, a solution commonly used as an antiseptic on wounds and as a mouth rinse for killing germs. This can easily be purchased by any drug store or chemist.
Distilled Water- Distilled water can be purchased in any grocery store. It is water that has been boiled, then evaporated and condensed. This process removes all toxins from the water, including bacteria, heavy metals and particulates. Distilled water is used to dilute the hydrogen peroxide when making the solution for glow sticks.
Sodium Carbonate –This can be found in household products like bleaching solutions, soap and other washing detergents. It's basically an alkaline solution made of carbonic acid.
Copper sulfate pentahydrate – this is an odorless, soluble blue crystal made of copper, lead, iron, cadmium, chromium, arsenic and antimony. It is basically responsible for creating a bluish glow in a glow stick.
