Embroidery Becoming a Popular Niche for Two Retirees
Diane Poston and Karen Bell left long-term corporate careers for creating a commercial embroidery business in Karen’s basement.
The two best friends say they couldn’t be happier with their career changes. As they looked to retire from their previous jobs, Bell gave her boss a three months notice at her job and told herself she’d find something to do. Bell and Poston met seven years ago when they were neighbors in a townhome community. When Poston married and decided to move to Indian Land, Bell also moved, and the two started their plans to work in Bell’s basement in the embroidery industry.
Rainbow Creations grew quickly and clients now range from a big company in Charlotte to local churches for their ministries and softball groups. The Barudan embroidery machine allows them to create or enter a design into a computer program, which then the machine sews.
Bell and Poston have even worked with graphic artists to create custom designs, but they work by themselves most of the time.
