Distance Learning Publishes New Infograph on the Rise in Human Populations
As of June 2013, there are over 7 billion people sharing the earth.
Every single second, five people are born while only 2 die. This creates a net gain of 3 people per second. However, by 2040, it’s expected that only 56 million people will be born per year and over 80 million will die due to famine, disease or natural disasters.
It is no wonder why Distance Learning made a point to publish an infographic about the growing population, as world recession problems get bigger and not enough food is being produced to feed all of the people on earth as it is. The problem is only going to get worse, as well. The average fertility rate is 2.5 children in a single family. If this rate continues, there will be 11 billion people on this planet by 2050, and over 27 billion by 2100.
The highest rates of human population growth happened between the 1950s and 60s, creating the “baby boom” period, The growth rate peaked at 2.2 percent in 1963, but declined to 1.1 percent by 2011.
Right now, over half of the world’s population - around 4.7 billion people - live in poor or low middle class social economies. Nearly 1 in 4 people on this earth are young, between the ages of 10 and 24, but 85 percent of the world’s adolescents live in developing countries.
The environmental effects of human population growth are detrimental. Food, water and space is very limited when over populations occur, and if they continue, the world will need to be replenished with 50 percent more food, 30 percent more water, and 45 percent more energy to sustain life by 2030. Unfortunately, at the rapid rates of deforestation, coal burning and bycatches all over the world, this is not looking to happen.
Social awareness is one of the first major steps you can take to help solve the world’s problem of overpopulation. To dive in further and get a career in environmentalism, visit Distance Learning to find an online school to get you a degree you need to help save the world.
