Majority of Women Would Fear Not Wearing Makeup at Work
Fear negative perception from coworkers and being in trouble with boss
Women state they feel pressured to look good, even with work, according to the results of the study.
The numbers revealed that over three-quarters of women within the UK admitted that they would not go to work without makeup on, while nearly 20% of those surveyed feared they would 'get in trouble' at work if they failed to wear the powder on their face.
The study was aimed at taking a closer look at the beauty spending habits of females, looking at what types and how much women spend for makeup. Over 1,800 female adults, all of whom
were employed, took part in the poll.
62% of the respondents admitted that they feel insecure when they do not have makeup on at work, while 47% of women believe it would cultivate a negative affect in how their co workers perceived them.
Another 18% of respondents claimed that they believed they would 'get in trouble with the boss' if they dared to show up to work without the caked on powder. Of that 18%, over a third worked
within retail. That shows that the problem stems beyond the field which would be considered likely to hold many look-conscious individuals.
Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, Mark Pearson, conducted the study, and had this to say of the findings: “We’ve run numerous studies in the past looking at how much both men and women spend on beauty products, so we wanted to narrow it down and take a real look at women and makeup; deciphering when and why it’s worn. To see that so many women claim they wouldn’t go to work without makeup on was surprising, most notably because of how respondents claimed it would affect their confidence or relationship with others.”
“Self-confidence at work is hugely important, and if wearing makeup awards this, then that is completely understandable. It goes without saying though that no one should be judged at work
by what they wear or how they look- if you’re doing a great job, I guarantee that no one will notice if you haven’t got any mascara on!”
