Study Shows More Turning to E-Cigs to Cut on Smoking Habit
Municipalities adding e-cigs to banned smoking list despite no health concerns
The new shop currently specializes in electronic cigarettes, which are called e-cigs by many users. The products are sleek, non-tobacco electronic devices that process nicotine through vapor clouds rather than conversion through smoke. All across the Westchester and the results of the world, more smokers are easing their way off standard cigarette usage and turning to the smokeless product.
The Center for Disease Control made a statement regarding a report earlier this year that adults who use the devices rose from 10% to 21% between the years 2010 and 2011.
Owners of Honest Vapor, Luciano Manete and Beth Nole, have both turned to the e-cigs as well. Manete was a three-pack-a-day smoker for over a quarter century. After he tried nearly every way to quit, he turned to e-cigarettes in 2010. For Manete, the method helped him kick the habit with relative ease in 2010. He stated that his customers are often telling him that they were able to quit cigarettes within weeks of trying electronic cigarettes.
"I honestly feel that this has extended my life, and increased the quality of my life," he said. His sister, Rosanna, works with him in the store, where they offer many different flavors. They design the flavors themselves and send them to a lab to be created. It's important for them to make sure the flavors are safe and that people know how to use the e-cigarettes.”
"We take the time, we talk to people, we do whatever we have to do to help people not smoke," he said. Many users try out different devices and flavors, turning a habit into a hobby.
Many public areas are now adding public smoking bans to include e-cigarettes, however. Foxborough-Norton-Mansfield area of Massachusetts modified its own rules to include e-cigs, regardless of the fact there is no odor or possible health effect on third-party ingestion of sparse vapor.
"People try to say this is going to lead kids to smoke, but that's not what we're about. The goal is to help people quit smoking," Manente said. He hears opponents saying e-cigarettes contain hazardous chemicals and can be harmful to one's health, but he points them to studies that say the delivery system makes it healthier than traditional cigarettes. "Because smoking has been so villainized, people don't take the time to learn."
