New Government Chief Information Officer (GCIO) shares insight with Hong Kong IT professionals
Guest of Honour chooses luncheon for first major meeting with IT industry representatives
(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 24, 2008 ) HONG KONG – The new Government Chief Information Officer (GCIO), Jeremy Richard Godfrey shared some impressions and insight about his new role with an audience of IT professionals at a luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS).
"IT in all its forms – hardware, software and telecommunications – has always been one of Hong Kong's strengths and put us on the map as a world financial centre and a regional business hub. As the pace of technological development continues to accelerate, it is critical that Hong Kong continues to embrace, innovate and create Hong Kong's digital future," said HKCS president Sunny Lee.
"I am pleased that Mr Godfrey chose this luncheon event, hosted by the Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS), to share his insight and perspective on IT development in Hong Kong for the first time," Mr Lee said.
Lee also noted that the pace of innovation brings new technologies, opportunities and challenges almost daily.
"Hong Kong has seen a stream of new developments which promise to improve quality of life as well as our commercial environment ... designed, implemented and supported for the most part by the IT profession in general and HKCS members in particular," he said.
Throughout the years the HKCS has aimed to promote sustained development of the IT industry in Hong Kong by focussing on three key areas.
Members: Upholding and enhancing the professional capabilities of members through quality well organised professional development programmes.
Enterprise: Promoting the adoption of IT and ensuring that businesses exploit it appropriately.
Community: Serving the community at large through a variety of community projects.
The luncheon was organised by HKCS, and co-organised by other influential Hong Kong technology associations and organisations, including the Communications Associations of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers-Information Technology Division, Hong Kong Information Technology Federation, Hong Kong Linux Industry Association, Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association, Hong Kong & Mainland Software Industry Cooperation Association, Information Systems Audit and Control Association Hong Kong Chapter, Information and Software Industry Association, Internet Professional Association, Internet Society Hong Kong, IT Services Management Forum Hong Kong Chapter, as well as Project Management Institute Hong Kong Chapter.
