InterMune Inc. (ITMN) Shows Positive Trial Results for Hepatitis C Treatment
InterMune Inc. (Nasdaq: ITMN), a biotechnology company, focuses on the development and commercialization of therapies in pulmonology and hepatology. The company offers Actimmune for the treatment of chronic granulomatous disease and severe, malignant osteopetrosis in the United States.
InterMune also develops Pirfenidone, which is in phase III clinical status for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, interferon gamma products that are in a preclinical stage, and the Protease Inhibitor program, which is in a phase I clinical stage for the treatment of hepatitis C virus infections.
InterMune recently announced positive top-line results of an early-stage trial for ITMN-191, a hepatitis C treatment candidate. InterMune shares rose as news was released that the drug, given in gelatin capsules, delivered results similar to other hepatitis C drugs and exhibited flexibility in dosing.
