Jackets for Jobs Celebrates 13 Years Of Suiting Up Detroiters
Shaquille O’Neal’s mother Lucille O’Neal to speak at the 13th anniversary gala
Jackets for Jobs’ anniversary galas are always a festive event and this year Lucille O’Neal will be the keynote speaker. She may be the mother of one of the greatest athletes of all time, but Lucille O'Neal is much more than "Shaquille O'Neal's mom." Her life story is inspirational and will inspire Jackets for Jobs clientele.
Jackets For Jobs was started after founder & CEO, Alison Vaughn, lost her sister to cancer and discovered that her sister was also on welfare. Alison wanted to do something to help others who were struggling financially but still and had a desire to gain employment. And today Jackets for Jobs helps its clients by providing career coaching, interview training and professional business attire.
Since opening the doors in 2000, Jackets for Jobs has helped over 14,000 individuals with employment, including over 1,000 people in 2012. Vaughn’s organization has been supported and applauded by ABC's "The View, NBC's "Today Show", and Oprah's O Magazine. A highlight of her career was the distinct honor of ringing the closing bell on the NASDAQ. The organization is also proud to be in charitable partnership with TJ Maxx.
Jackets for Jobs has ambitious goals for the future and plans to replicate its Detroit operations in other locations by establishing Jackets for Jobs chapters in other cities. “JFJ is a one-of-a-kind operation and there is plenty of opportunity to help more people,” states Vaughn.
“We are so pleased to have Mrs. O’Neal share with us her wisdom on this special occasion,” said Alison Vaughn. “She has so much experience and I know everyone will walk away with a lesson they can learn from.” Lucille O'Neal shares her life story candidly in her book Walk Like You Have Somewhere to Go as well as in her keynotes. . She has endured poverty, rejection, abuse, addiction, and the illness of a child, yet today her faith and compassion for others is stronger than ever.
Admission to this event is free but interested individuals must RSVP by April 4th by calling (313) 579-9160. Additionally, the first 100 Jackets For Jobs clients to RSVP and attend will receive a gift card courtesy of TJ Maxx.
