Dark Chocolate Daily Dose Good for the Heart reports My Chocolate Coins

Study finds health is promoted by dark chocolates

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 07, 2013 ) Katy, TX -- Chocolate boxes are shaped like hearts for a reason, as certain types truly are good for the heart.

Eating dark chocolate on a regular basis is linked to lowered risk of heart attacks and strokes. That is an added bonus to the fact that it is simply delicious in general, and gives all chocolate lovers a reason to indulge.

Just like green tea, dark chocolate is rich in flavonoids, antioxidants, and may actually help protect the heart and blood vessels. It is also rich in magnesium, which is a mineral critical to a healthy heart and insulin production.

It is important to note that not all chocolates are the same, though, and one should know what times are helpful, and which are less-so.

Dark chocolate can be eaten daily, at least if you ask Australian researchers who recently researched its effects on those with metabolic syndrome. It is also recommended for individuals who carry extra weight around the waist, or have elevated triglycerides, blood sugar, blood pressure, or low HDL cholesterol.

While chocolate is helpful for these items, the changes are small compared to a medication that is prescribed for such afflictions. Thus, no one should substitute dark chocolate for their blood pressure medication.

Eating chocolate on a frequent basis is linked to having lower risk of heart disease, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Family Heart Study. Over 5,000 volunteers participated in a study, which showed that those who ate chocolate five or more times each week had lowered their risk of heart disease by over 55% overall.

Chocolate lovers also had 29% fewer strokes than chocolate avoiders, according to the study by the British Medical Journal.

Researchers noted that chocolate may be so helpful as it promotes elasticity of blood vessels and prevents dangerous clots to form in the vessels.
