Asbestos Still a Threat in Waiting in UK reports Meso Asbestos Law Help

Deadly substance still abound across the country

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 03, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- While asbestos has been banned for nearly a decade, many building in the United Kingdom were constructed well before the 2000 ban took effect, and thus are at risk of containing the deadly material.

The fabric was commonly used throughout the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, when there had been little information released on the substance.

Nearly 4,000 people have succumb to asbestos-related diseases, while the HSE believe that nearly 2 million tradespeople will likely be exposed to the material.

The HSE has thus launched an event aimed to spread awareness of the regulator's e-learning package that will involve teaching youngsters about asbestos and the related hazards.

An event was organized by the Clydebank College, Federation of MasterBuilders, as well as the Scottish Center for Healthy Working Lives. The event will target those who may not be relatively new to the construction industry.

"This event continues HSE's drive to tackle ignorance about Britain's biggest industrial killer," commented HSE principal inspector Archie Mitchell.

"Many young tradespeople believe that, because asbestos is no longer used in buildings, it's no longer a threat to them. But that simply isn't true."

The HSE has continued to take a very strict line when it comes to companies that are found to be at fault for breaching the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. In Birmingham, a builder was fined nearly $7,000 after being found in violation of asbestos within a Castle Bromwich property. The construction team was forced to remove all the placed substance.

In many cases it is only licensed and seasoned professionals that are capable and permitted to handle asbestos. In the particular incident, the constructor was taking out asbestos insulation boards, which are not to be touched by any unaccredited worker. The dust fibers that can come from the boards are the cause of an array of lung diseases when inhaled.
