Treatise on Obesity in 1816 Echoes Truths of Today reports CarbFlux White Kidney Bean Extract
Britain is the 'Fat Man' of Europe
(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 03, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Soon enough, Brits will be as fat as Americans thanks to the same sort of industrial food complex, bad dieting exercised by its citizens, and limited exercise in general.
A new report may have some shocked, and others who are paying attention not-so shocked, concerning the obesity epidemic within Britain. The British are now the fattest people in Europe. “It has been conjectured by some that for every one fat person in France or Spain, there are an hundred [sic] in England,” reads the report. That reading is not only scary given the state of Britain today, but also because it was printed in 1816.
Over 200 years after the surgeon William Ward wrote the treatise, entitled Cursory Remarks on Corpulence or Obesity Considered as a Disease, which set forth to explain the health risks of general obesity. The text was a large hit and was reprinted often before Wadd's death in 1829.
Drawing from his medical career, which began in the late 18th century, Wadd set forth to describe the general fate of the scores of large patience he encountered often in his profession.
Even when Wadd was writing, fatness was considered a national dilemma for nearly a century. “It is not a little singular,” he mused, ““that a disease which had been thought characteristic of the inhabitants of this island, should have been so little attended to.”
Currently, a similar conclusion was made by a report on obesity in Britain. The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, whom represents the a vast majority of medical doctors in the UK, described Britain as the “fat man” of Europe.
While there are many numbers involved in the findings, the report points out two important points. Britain is dangerously, and very literally fatally fat. It also points out that £5.1 billion per year is spent treating obesity-related illnesses. It is, pun intended, a very large problem for the country.
The problem comes right down to a select set of personal choices, that are no different from when Wadd was alive. “abstinence and exercise” and “the three principal points … in the removal of obesity are diet, exercise, and sleep.”
