Oscar Nominees Surprise Many reports Walt Frasier

Almost every actor has small roles leading up to their dynamic and historic performances

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 03, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- It is not the fact that every role acted is worth a statuette, as almost all the Oscar nominees could attest to. There are many Academy Awards honorees' who possess lesser works or independent pieces that are likely to be all-but-forgotten as the sands of time pass.

Jessica Chastain spoke on one of her roles prior to her award-nominated performance this year. "I went to Juilliard, I trained, I did a lot of theater, I did some guest spots on TV," the Zero Dark Thirty Best Actress nominee has said of starting out. Nearly a decade before the 35-year-old was a candidate for best actress, she played a pregnant girl who goes missing on the Kristen Bell drama Veronica Mars.

Bradley Cooper, who earned his nomination in Silver Linings Playbook, missed his graduation at New York City's Actors Studio to take his part in a small satire call Wet Hot American Summer. The movie poked fun at movies like Meatballs and Summer Camp, and Cooper's role as the not-so-subtle homosexual jock was a role that the Academy likely will never take a second look at.

Before Anne Hathaway was synonymous with class and elegant charm, as well as before her award-winning role in Les Miserables, she was a high-schooler on the FOX series Get Real. "When I was younger I thought about becoming a nun for a while," Hathaway has said of her pre-fame days. "You know how it is when you're growing up and you're going to be a lot of different things, but I actually wanted to be an actress before I wanted to be a nun."

Even perennial Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix, who was nominated for The Master, has a rather silly silver-screen passed. As a preteen, he shared the stage with Lea Thompson and Kelly Preston in Space Camp.
