Las Vegas Store Keeps Business Alive Following Fire reports My Vegas Business Review
Owner attributes diligent work, good neighbors, and son as reason for success
(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 24, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Following a disaster of any type, coming back as a business can be incredibly difficult. This is especially true when a shop loses everything during the disaster. Yet, in Las Vegas, one shop in town has been proving that with proper motivation, it is wholly possible to rise up from the ashes.
Mike's Shoe Repair was essentially fully destroyed by the fire, and was left a seemingly lost cause. However, its owner, backed by the help of the loyal base of customers, is again able to help contribute to the local economy.
The business is back to 'business as usual' and the 30-year old Las Vegas business has found a way back after being burned down in October.
"I never lost a job. That day I lost my job, and that's the only income I had to support my family," says owner Mike Pyongyang.
The fire erupted when a spark from one of Mike's machines ignited a pile of dust. Mike continued to work after the fire, even amidst the rubble and decay caused by the flames.
"We never shut down the business for even one hour. Throughout the fire time," says Pyongyang. "We were at the sidewalk the day of the fire, and Monday after that we took the temporary location."
A new temporary location was not exactly ideal, and Mike did not have even the basic utilities to help his effort. "We had to borrow power from our good neighbors eight stores away. He let us borrow power so to keep going and not lose customers," says Pyongyang.
The owner noted that the help of kind neighbors and friends was what allowed him to set up the new location and succeed in the new location. "Same idea, same shop, same shoemaker, newer, bigger, and better," says Pyongyang.
Mike also contributes the comeback to his nine-month-old son, Armand. "I don't know if it wasn't him, I would not have found enough energy to do everything I did the last three months. It was just a living nightmare day in and day out," says Pyongyang.
