Wind Turbines May Be Effecting Health reports Pure Lifestyle Wonders

Bad hair day may be only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to negative effects

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 23, 2013 ) England, U.K -- Scientists are looking into how the stress hormone coritsol is effecting individuals hair quality, and they believe there may be an impact involving wind turbines.

Starting in May of 2013, the government has official planned to study the hair of over 1,200 people who live near or around wind turbines. That testing could result in scientists noting that turbines are linked to health problems, such as chronic stress.

“The objective of the contract is to analyze hair cortisol concentrations from hair samples collected during the community noise and health study,” says a contract notice posted Friday.

He continued: “The hair cortisol concentrations will be added to the data file for this survey and analyzed in relationship to other measures of health and respondent demographics.

“Specifically, the hair cortisol results will be used to assess if there is a relationship between levels of systemic stress and distance from wind turbines.”

According to scientsts, the adrenal gland produces cortisol, and this may be effected adversely by proximity to wind turbines. A brief jolt of cortisol will send a burst of energy through the body, which heightens memory as well as numbs the pain to sensitivity. Prolonged exposure to higher levels of cortisol, however, can lead to particular helath problems, according to exports.

The work from Statistics Canada and Health Canada are now in collaboration regarding the study to measure the health of nearly a dozen communities located within 10 kilometers of wind turbines.

David Michaud of Health Canada has noted that his team will go door-to-door in order to ask people to retrieve hair samples.

For every centimeter of hair, there is one-month average of cortisol, he stated. His team will ask people to provide a single three-centimeter sample, which should give a quality 90-day reading.

Michaud is quick to state the limitations of what they can say involving the health effect of wind turbines on the health of those in the area.

We cannot say that, no matter what the cortisol value looks like, that it’s being caused by the wind turbine noise,” he said.

“What we can say is that when we look at the average values in people that live, say, in the higher areas versus the lower areas, there is or there is not an association in terms of the concentrations.
