Popular Brazilian Waxing All But Removed Pubic Lice from Existence reports Tropica Laser Long Island
Cases for treatment fallen between 80-100% in last decade
(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 01, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- It appears the pubic lice may have been wholly wiped out of existence thanks to the popularity of bikini waxing, know as “Brazilian waxing”.
The bugs have been a part of many persons lives as long as humanity existed, but they seem to now be close to losing their spot in the human's world thanks to the growing interest in many to maintain short-to-no pubic hair.
Doctors are now stating that the pubic hair being taken away, which is the staying ground of the crab-shaped insects, has essentially ruined their living and breeding grounds. In Australia, main sexual health clinics have not treated a women for public lice in over four years. Many male cases have fallen by nearly 80% from a decade ago.
'It used to be extremely common; it’s now rarely seen,' said Basil Donovan, head of sexual health at the University of New South Wales’s Kirby Institute and a physician at the Sydney Sexual Health Center. 'Without doubt, it’s better grooming.'
J Sisters salon in Manhattan attracts nearly 200 clients a day to have their public hair removed, or be sculpted into custom designs. The treatments often cost around $75 per session.
Women are not alone in the interest in scapping or removing their hair, as men are treated as well, in what is called Sunga. Those treatments costs somewhere in the vicinity of $90.
Almost 80% of college-age students in the United states remove some or all of their pubic hair. The waxing technique used was popularized in the 1990s by a Manhattan salon that was run by Brazilian sisters, and the trend still runs strong today.
'Pubic grooming has led to a severe depletion of crab louse populations,' said Ian F. Burgess, a medical entomologist with Insect Research & Development Ltd. in Cambridge, England. 'Add to that other aspects of body hair depilation, and you can see an environmental disaster in the making for this species.'
