(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 24, 2013 ) Sault Ste. Marie, Detroit and Gaylord share the spotlight in two novels by B. David Warner.

Dead Lock takes place in the Sault Ste. Marie of World War II. Detroit Times reporter Kate Brennan is forced to leave town by a mob hit squad. She journeys to the Soo where she goes to work for her uncle’s newspaper. A close friend is murdered, and in investigating the crime, she encounters a Nazi plot to destroy the locks.

“Nearly 90% of the iron ore bound for our defense plants had to travel through the Soo Locks,” Warner says. “To destroy them could have changed the course of the war.”

Warner says the locks were heavily guarded. “We had almost 7,500 troops stationed there,” he says. They were armed with anti-aircraft weaponry.”

The first chapters of this novel set in Michigan are available at http://www.bdavidwarner.com.

Freeze Frame 2016 is set in modern day Detroit. The upcoming presidential election is just days away when ad executive Darcy James discovers a dark secret behind the candidate leading in the polls. But she and her love interest, Sean Higgins, are being hunted for a murder they didn’t commit. They hide out in Gaylord, Michigan, looking for evidence that will prove their innocence, and the presidential candidate guilty of treason.

The first few chapters of Freeze Frame 2016 can also be found at http://www.bdavidwarner.com.

“I enjoy setting my novels in Michigan,” Warner says. “It’s a beautiful, dynamic state, and I love to write about it.”

Both novels also feature strong female characters. “Both Kate Brennan and Darcy James are strong female protagonists,” Warner says. “They’re tough women who more than hold their own in an often male-dominated world.”
