"Gangster" Finally Sees Release Date reports Theatre Tickets 4 U

Movie has hard time finding date not so near to tragedy

(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 16, 2013 ) London, U.K -- Following the delayed release and re-shots being forced on “Gangster Squad” due to the summer's massacres at theaters, the film finally found its way into theaters on Friday.

“Gangster,” set in 1949 Los Angeles, stars Sean Penn as a true-to-life gangster “Michey Cohen, who is brought to justice by a group of officers who are played by Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling. In other words, its a bit of the untouchables with a new cast.

When the Colorado tragedy occurred, Time Warner Inc's Warner Bros. Studio, which held the rights to the film, removed the scene of the film which depicted a similar scenario. The studio felt it was far too close in likeness and too near temporal proximity to the real-life passings.

It substituted that scene for a new sequence that was set in Chinatown.

Ruben Fleischer, the movie's director, stated that “We should all respect the tragedy and not draw associations to our film.”

Ironically, following the “Gangster's” initiation September 7 release date was pushed due to allow for the Colorado tragedy to be far enough in the rear-view mirror for the public, the film is released with less than one month's time passed since 20 children and six adults were murdered at Connecticut elementary school.

Actor Josh Brolin cautioned some who may attempt to make comparisons to the movie with the real-world events, stating that the public must look at “the grand scheme of things” including social problems like drugs and unemployment, as opposed to trying to point fingers at sensational events.

"There's no one reason" for mass attacks, Brolin told reporters. "There will always be violence in movies. And whether it lends (itself) to the one psychotic that's out there thinking the worst thoughts you can possibly think is always going to be a mystery."
