Dodgers Stadium Improvements “More Than a Band Aid” According to CEO reports Trading Pin Hub
MLB can no longer dodge LA’s All-Star bid based on aging stadium
President and CEO Stan Kasten stated that the goal is to improve the experience for fans, while still preserving the third-oldest ballpark in the current major leagues.
"This is more than a Band-Aid," he said. "I think this will stand up for a very long time."
Kasten stated that plans to talk with Commissioner Bud Selig about a future All-Star hosting opportunity for the park were underway in light of the field makeover. The park, built in 1962, held the Midsummer Classic in 1980, with new ballparks having passed it up in the pecking order since then.
"That will never be an excuse again," Kasten said.
Kresten unveiled the changes that were upcoming for the 2013 season. The tally on cost was $100 million, and the heavy equipment moving throughout the field was a telling sign of the scope of the change.
"We do still think we're going to get done by Opening Day, but it's going to be a scramble," Kasten said. "It might leak into the season."
Two hi-def video boards in the opposing outfield sides, each being 22% larger than the origional scoreboard, which is under the knife for its own restoration. A new sound system is being added as well, and will be heard in the concourses as well as the restrooms. An improved Wi-Fi and cell antenna system will also be vamped up in order to cater to tech-savvy fans in the stands.
The video boards' viewable area will be two-thirds larger than before. "We want to provide fans with the kind of information they're used to seeing at home," said Janet Marie Smith, senior vice-president of planning and development .
"Our first and number one goal was to do things that touch all fans," she said.
