Whitney Houston's Death Nabs Top Spot in Trending Searches reports Market Leader SEO

Royal scandal, celebrity deaths, and Olympics included in Top 10 list

(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 19, 2012 ) Harrisburg, NC -- In the world of internet searches, the general demeanor and interest of the average user ranged widely. There was tragedy of celebrity deaths, the crowning of a royal princess, the newest in hi-tech gadgetry with the iPad, and a record-breaking skydiving attempt.

According to Google Inc's year-end “Zeitgeist” report, Whitney Houston took the top spot for “top trending” search for 2012. The awards mark Google's 12th annual roundup of “in depth looks at the spirit of the times as seen through the billions of searches on Google over the past year,” according to the company's blog posted yesterday.

People across the globe searched the news regarding Houston's drowning in a bathtub directly prior to her scheduled performing on the Grammy Award party last February.

For those not in the know, “trending” is when a topic gathers a high volume of traffic for a sustained period of time.

PSY, the Korean rapper who created the world-wide sensation “Gangnam Style” took the second spot. The placing gives credence to the self-deprecating, and gladly gitty of the dancer and his equally entertaining dance style. The video has neared a billion views on YouTube.

Mother Nature also made her way onto the list. Superstorm Sandy that knocked out power to parts of New York and New Jersey, and took the lives of hundreds prior to the U.S. Presidential election came in third.

Taking fourth and fifth place were tech-sector topics, as the iPad 3 from Apple Inc. and Diablo 3, the popular computer game found their way to the respective positions.

Kate Middleton, between topless photos and pregnancy found her way onto the list. The Duchess was not the only Brit-based listing, as the 2012 Olympics in London also graced the Top 10. Amanda Todd, an apparent victim of such hurtful bullying that she took her own life, sadly made the list. Another celebrity death, Michael Clarke Duncan, of “Green Mile” fame made the list. Big Brother Brazil (BBB12) finished off the list, proving once again that all you need is some scantily clad men and women to make people talk.
