Bestseller Changing Women's Views on Sexuality reports Female Faze
'Fifty Shades of Grey" bring sex out into the open
(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 02, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Bestselling book "Fifty Shades of Grey" is causing a new sexual revolution. The book is making it possible for women to explore their sexuality.
The book, written by British author E.L. James, follows the relationship between a recent college graduate named Anastasia Steele and a young businessman, Christian Grey. The often tumultuous relationship features such sexual practices and sadomasochism, bondage and discipline, and dominance and submission.
To date the book has sold more than 60 million copies worldwide. It has topped the bestseller lists in both the United States and United Kingdom, and has become the fastest-selling paperback book in history. The book is part of a trilogy, with title "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed" to be released at a later date.
Technology, such as smartphones and tablet readers, has made it easier for women to enjoy the book without embarrassment that might normally come when others see the title on a physical book. The book even led to a new term," mommy porn," becoming part of the regular lexicon.
"We're ripe for women to be exploring their sexuality," said Milhausen, a professor at University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. She plans to make the book the center of her discussion on women's sexuality in Kitchener, Ontario on December 11.
In her research, Milhausen noted that young women have the most inability to talk about their sexual desires, such as what they like in bed while older women are able to do it more freely and, to some extent, more graphically.
While older women are better at talking the talk, they are often better at walking the walk, too.
"There's this idea that sexuality gets worse as we age," Milhausen says, however, "your sexual satisfaction increases with every year of your life."
"Fifty Shades of Grey" has been panned by critics for being poorly written, but that has not affected sales. Books like this fall under the label of erotica, which has always been considered a lesser sub-genre, more known for more graphic depictions of sex and relationships rather than grand storytelling and well-developed plot points.
