Wilkes-Barre, PA – The Harlem Globetrotters are coming to the Mohegan Sun Arena on February 2013 as part of their widely acclaimed sports performance tours all over the country and the world. The 2013 tour is called the “You Write the Rules” World Tour, where fans will be allowed to decide the rules for the games that the tea will play. This innovation is highly significant because no other sports team has done this before.

Witness this innovative sports tour live by booking your Harlem Globetrotters tickets today from VeryCheapSeats.com.

Sports and theatre might sound like an odd combination, but this unique blend of entertainment is that special “something” that has made the Harlem Globetrotters unique. The Harlem Globetrotters is an exhibition basketball team owned by Shamrock Holdings, which is responsible for overseeing the many investments of the Roy E. Disney family. The whistled version of the song “Sweet Georgia Brown” is the signature theme of the tem, with “Globie” being the Globetrotters’ official mascot since 1993.

Over the years, the Harlem Globetrotters have played more than twenty thousand exhibition games in 120 countries all over the world. The team was first organized in the late 1920’s, not in Harlem but in the South Side of Chicago, Illinois—the hometown of the original players of the team. Tommy Brookins led the first “Globe Trotters,” the team that toured Southern Illinois in 1928. Abe Saperstein eventually became involved with the team, and during a tour of Illinois and Iowa, he called them the New York Harlem Globe Trotters as homage to Harlem, which was then considered to be the center of African-American culture.

The Globetrotters have been a consistent participant in the World Professional Basketball Tournament—the team has won the championship title in 1940. However, the rise of the National Basketball Association eclipsed the popularity of the Globetrotters, which was then considered as one of the best basketball teams in the country.

Included among the roster of the Globetrotters were NBA legends Wilt Chamberlain, Nat Clifton, Connie Hawkins, Meadowlark Lemon, Marques Haynes, Jerome James, Hubert Ausbie, Fred Neal, and Reece Tatum. The Harlem Globetrotters have made international news when they have signed their first female player in 1985, in the person of Olympic gold medallist Lynette Woodard, who was joined by the renowned athlete Joyce Walker just three weeks after.

Since 2007, the team has conducted an annual “draft” just before the official NBA draft, a process that allows them to invite choice players to join the team. There are times that the team would pick athletes that are not known as basketball players—such as in the case of soccer players Lionel Messi and Tim Howard—but the event is good fun and great publicity for the team.

NCAA Men’s Final Four tickets and New York Knicks tickets are also available for great value and great convenience at the VeryCheapSeats.com website.
