(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 10, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- A caddy at the highly elite East Hampton Golf Club authored a book claiming many of his wealthy and influential clients are not necessarily adept at the game.
Scott Werner’s “Caddy Tales” focuses on behind-the-scenes moments at the club, where fees begin at $400,000.
Clients there, he writes, have been known to cheat, stalk off the course if they lose, hurl their clubs if they make a bad swing, and even play with their pet poodles accompanying them.
The 48-year-old Werner left the banking world to caddy at the course. Club members include former NBA celebrity Jason Kidd, NBC CEO Jeff Zucker and Goldman Sachs Chairman Lloyd Blankfein.
Some of his extremely wealthy clients own so many cars, wrote Werner, that they have been known to drive someone else’s home.
Werner, who has also caddied for Tiger Woods and Jack Nicholson, told the New York Post: “These are people controlling the financial world, and it’s amazing, the things they say.” He added that rather than making fun of his clients, he was “laughing with them.”
Apparently, Alec Baldwin does not laugh with them. Baldwin, wrote Werner, who loathes the club and course for environmental reasons, used to park his car near the holes and honk his horn every time someone attempted a swing.
In addition to his self-published book, Werner is selling his own line of T-shirts emblazoned with what he considers the best of his clients’ off-the-cuff one-liners including, “I shot an 80 today, but I cheated,” and “you have enough crap in this bag to start a yard sale.”
Founded 40 years ago, the East Hampton Golf Club was designed by Hall of Fame golfer Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore.
