( EMAILWIRE.COM, June 18, 2003 )   On December 4, 2000, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring June 20th World Refugee Day. Prior to the U.N. resolution, many countries observed refugee day, but June 20, 2001 was the first year that World Refugee Day was celebrated internationally.

On June 20, 2003, San Diego County based organizations: Alliance for African Assistance, SCME Mortgage Bankers, Inc., The Fieldstone Foundation, SCF Insurance Co., Shadow Mountain Community Church, La Jolla Presbyterian Church, and Sharp Hospital will join the rest of the world to celebrate World Refugee Day with a breakfast at the La Jolla Presbyterian Church “Life Center”, 7715 Draper Avenue, La Jolla, CA 92037 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The cost is $25 per person.

Alemi Daba, a former refugee herself and a 2003 State of California Woman-of-the year will be the keynote speaker at the breakfast. “We are very honored to present Ms Daba as the keynote speaker at the breakfast,” says Walter Lam, President and CEO of Alliance for African Assistance.

Refugees from different countries but now living in San Diego are expected to attend the breakfast to show appreciation for the hospitality they have received since their arrival in San Diego County.
